Luke 3:21-22. "...Jesus also being baptized,and praying..." A lot of people go over these verses and never notice that He was praying there when baptized.
Mark 1:35. "...rising up a great while before dawn...prayed." Notice that! And read verse 34. He would never allow demons or the devil to bear testimony of Him. Now compare Ph'p. 2:10. These that bow the knee will do it willingly, and the devil and demons will not be among them.

Our author's desire was to write a book using poetry (i.e. a poetic form) in such a way as to provoke curiosity and a greater interest in the Bible and finally to promote Bible study. He hoped that others would "Search to See" whether or not these things are true by searching the Scriptures.

The purpose of this booklet is to prove that the patriarch Enoch and the prophet Elijah are not examples of men who have died and are now alive in heaven. It will be proven that Enoch is not a type of the "pre-tribulation rapture" of the Body of Christ at the end of this dispensation. That Elijah was not taken to heaven in a fiery chariot thereby escaping death. And finally that these two men are not the "Two Witnesses" of the Book of Revelation, chapter 11:3-12. These two men do not have immortal souls and they are not examples of men who do.

Each of these books has a present prospect, but used events of the past for proof and background. Each one recognizes the line of demarcation where Israel ceased to be the favored nation with dispensational advantages over all others. Each was written primarily to Gentiles. Isaiah 12 is short, only 6 verses, a song of praise. It's separate from the rest, and the translators recognized this, so they set it aside. The background for it is found in Isa. 11:16. It speaks of a day when Israel will be led back into their land. "And there shall be an highway for the remnant of His People. which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt."

There are two Lazaruses in the New Testament. One of them, along with his two sisters Mary and Martha, enjoyed a close friendship with the Lord. It is recorded in the eleventh chapter of John that, traumatic circumstances befell that family. Lazarus became very ill and died. His sisters called for the Lord Who raised Lazarus from the dead even though he had been dead four days. This caused the consternation of the chief priest and Pharisees who hated the Lord to the point that they plotted His death.

Our subject pictured above has hit rock bottom circumstantially. The only ones content are the hogs taking a siesta. From appearances it would be hard to believe the young man came from a wealthy family. The story of how he requested his inheritance from his father and squandered it in reckless living and a dissipated lifestyle is recorded in Luke 15:11-32. Added to this was a famine that worsened his situation and he ended up with an occupation feeding swine which was a despicable and insulting job for a Jewish person. However, the noteworthy high point of the story is that he came to his senses realizing his father's slaves were living better than he was! His decision to go back home and throw himself on his father's mercy to be restored to the family, acknowledging that he had first of all sinned against God, serves to illustrate the repentant sinner being welcomed back home by a loving and forgiving father.

The picture above would certainly be a strange and mystifying sight for anyone who has never read the Bible. Someone walk on water? How could that ever be possible? But we do read in the gospel narratives of this historical event that took place when the disciples of the Lord Jesus were caught in a storm in the middle of the Sea of Galilee during the very early hours of the morning. The disciples thought they saw a ghost and were terrified, but the Lord identified Himself and comforted them.

Those who have been initiated in right division (2 Tim. 2:15) will immediately recognize the lesson presented in the above picture. But others may need a hint as to the meaning of it all. When a Gentile woman came to the Lord in the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon and asked that a demon be cast out of her daughter, she was reminded that it was not proper to take the food intended for the children and cast it out to the dogs.

"Abraham, Abraham...lay not thine hand upon the lad. Neither do thou any thing unto him for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from me" (Gen. 22:11,12).
It was not that God did not know what Abraham would do, but here is the proof. This was a test, such as a test of gold by fire. Job also had a testing and he came through without faltering. In his case it was a controversy between God and Satan. We do not know whether Abraham had been accused by the adversary, but it is very likely that he was. For Satan is the accuser of all that are good.

We have been on Holy ground in studying this chapter. We've had one lesson on it, we mentioned the fact that maybe we should take off our shoes as we approach this wonderful chapter and listen in on this prayer that our Lord has with the Father. Remember that this is the true Lord's prayer. The one that is often called the Lord's prayer is the disciples prayer or the tribulation prayer. That was a prayer that the Lord taught the disciples to pray when the time of the tribulation should come. But here, in John 17, is the real Lord's prayer.
