Change

Change

By George Feldman

One of the many wonders of nature is the change that can be seen in the lowly, unattractive caterpillar transformed into a beautiful creature such as is seen in the Monarch butterfly. To the student of zoology this is known as a metamorphosis. This word, which is practically a carryover from Greek vocabulary, is found in the New Testament.

What Do You Seek?

What Do You Seek?

By George Feldman

If a person is risen, then we may infer that he has died and was buried. And in this context we find death mentioned. In verse 20 in the preceding chapter we find that the believer should die with Christ from the rudiments of the world. Now when one is dead, he is free from the law, from ordinances or rules of men, and from any worldly attachments.

Knowledge, Acknowledge

By Jack Eberle

Although our readers are among the most knowledgeable of Bible students, it is necessary to state a few premises.

  1. God's Word is totally inspired. (The technical term is "plenary inspiration".)
  2. God's Words are placed in His Holy Word purposefully and without error.

Therefore, we cannot accept some men's presumptions concerning what I call "casual" translation. A case in point is the "translations" of GNOSIS (knowledge) and EPIGNOSIS (acknowledgement). They are guilty of not observing Philippians l:10, "things that differ". We want to examine the meanings of these two words.

Vessels in a Great House

Vessels in a Great House

By George Feldman

In I Corinthians 3 we have the picture of different kinds of houses built on the one foundation. Builders used such materials as gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay and stubble. All these refer to man's works, of what kind they are. And a day of testing is to come. Some workmen will be approved, some disapproved.

Peace

Peace

By George Feldman

A story is told of two artists commissioned to compete in painting a picture depicting peace. One painted a valley of beautiful trees and flowers surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The other painted a storm-tossed scene, perhaps something like the picture above, in which a little bird was shown peacefully and securely nested in the cleft of a rock. The judges decided on this picture as being more true to life.

How To Read the Bible #2

By Oscar M. Baker

We emphasize in our teaching that people READ the Bible, and once in a while we do give a lesson on reading, emphasis and so on. When I was a youngster, we had Bible reading in the home. Mother did the reading and Dad did the praying, and I of course listened. That may sound ritualistic in a way, and maybe it was, but I think some ritual is pretty good. A lot of things that came to my ears when that was being read, I didn't forget. Mother was a good reader. She had learned to read with emphasis, and how to watch the punctuation. Also, she tried to understand what she was reading - that makes all the difference in the world.

In Love

By Oscar M. Baker

"...in love may grow up unto Him, the all things Which is the Head, even Christ." Now, we've taken the liberty here of moving a comma. And why? Well, it does not interfere with the sentence structure in the Greek, and it does parallel the expression in the doctrinal section in Eph. 3:17 and 18, "...that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend..." So the growth is dependent on being rooted in love. And so in love we should grow up unto Him. All too often man wants to substitute fear for love. But here it is, NO LOVE - NO GROWTH!

Life and Resurrection #2

By Oscar M. Baker

“Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.” This is the same message as in John 3:16, except this is to Jews only, while John's message is worldwide. It would be well to see what some passages in the Old Testament have to say about our subject.

The Great Crisis

By Oscar M. Baker

When we get to the last chapters of Acts, we find that the ministry of the 12 of the kingdom of heaven has about ceased. Little is heard of it. Paul is still carrying on with the same message, but he is being rejected in about every quarter. Finally he is arrested in Jerusalem, imprisoned at Caesarea for two years, and finally sent to Rome. There he made his final appeal to the Jews to accept Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah and King, reasoning with them from morning to night from Moses and the Prophets.

Ten Great 3:16's in the N.T.

By Oscar M. Baker

Please read each reference in full.

1.) Matthew 3:16, has something to say about God's Spirit. It doesn't say any one else saw this manifestation, but “Hesaw.” John may have seen it, we don't know. This was not a dove descending, but like a dove.” Cp. Acts 2:3, “cloven tongues like as offire” --- doesn't say there was any fire. From this verse in Mt. we know He had the testimony from the Father in heaven, it was a light, “lighting upon Him.”

Earth and Heavenly People

By Oscar M. Baker

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” (II Tim. 2:15.)

We see right division from the very start. In Genesis, the darkness is divided from the light and the waters below and above the firmament are divided by a new firmament, or heaven it is called. In studying the Bible today to find our place in God’s purpose, there’s another division we have to observe or know about. We don’t have this division today, but it has been, and that is Jew and Gentile.

What is Prayer?

By Oscar M. Baker

Now I’m going to repeat a phrase in this study many times because I want you to get it in your mind, and keep it there, and remember it. That phrase is, PRAYER IS THE BREATH OF THE NEW NATURE. Just as the Word is the food upon which the new nature must feed, so prayer is its breath. And breath sustains life as well as food, doesn’t it?
