I Therefore...Beseech You #4

By Oscar M. Baker

"That ye walk...Till we all come in the unity of the faith" (Eph. 4:13). In our last article we spoke of the unity of the Spirit. This is something that has been made and we are to keep it. But here we have the unity of the faith, and that is something to be obtained. There is an effort put forth by the members to have a unity of the faith.

From last time, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you” (I Peter 1: 18-20).

The Gospel of John #35

By Robert Guenther

We are continuing our review of the Gospel of John and after the Lord had fed the 5,000 we read that Jesus is taking yet another opportunity to teach them that He is not only the bread that came down from heaven but He is also revealing the truth that it is “The    Spirit that quickeneth”.

"That ye walk ... Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit" (Eph. 4:3).

This bit of advice is widely ignored today. This is accomplished by taking out the word keep, and substituting the word make. But we are not to make a unity, but to keep the unity which is already made. It is the unity of the Spirit. Therefore it is not made with hands. But the world is full of man-made unities today, and fall apart as fast as they are made.

We are prone to take so very many blessings and acts of grace of our Great God for granted. For instance, it is because of God’s abundant loving grace that we have any life at all, - let alone eternal redemption through the precious blood of Christ and astoundingly part of the Father’s own inheritance in the Heavenly Holy of Holies. From The record of Gen. 3:21 “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” We know that because of the rebellion of Adam and Eve a covering was made for them from animal skins (a type of the loving covering sacrifice for sin by The Christ). Through God’s grace the whole of the human race was allowed to come into existence by this act. Gen. Chapters: 6 - 9 is The Record of Noah, the possible total satanic contamination of mankind except for eight living souls, and the vexation of The Almighty that He ever created man.

The Promise in Eph 3:6 #3 and #4

By Oscar M. Baker

As already mentioned, ANTHROPOKTONOS, is a word used o f Satan. And it means manslayer. Let us look at a passage where this is a definition of this term. Once again it is John who supplies this information, for in writing to some of his converts, he proceeds, "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer (Anthropoktonos); and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him" (1 John 3:15).

By faith he (Moses) forsook Egypt , not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured as seeing Him Who is invisible ” (Hebrews11:27). Was Moses predestinated? Yes, of course he was, for Almighty God foreknew the choices that Moses would make (Romans 8:28 -30). What kind of power could compel (if I may reverently use this word) Moses to make choices away from one manner of life toward another, the two being so very opposite of each other. From supreme wealth and glory in the flesh to being worth no more than an ox in the degrading bondage of slavery (Exodus. 1:8-14; 2:23 -25).

The Promise in Eph 3:6 #2

By Oscar M. Baker

In the verses just quoted from Titus, there is a statement which deserves and requires careful consideration. It is no meaningless phrase that informs us of the fact that God cannot lie, for it is linked most definitely with the PROMISE OF LIFE. Furthermore, in realizing this, we are compelled to observe an obvious contrast. The God Who cannot lie has promised LIFE, but the one who is the father of the lie has introduced DEATH into the creation of God. To substantiate this suggestion may we consider those passages of Scripture which give us other important details.

Paul is speaking, and yet not Paul, but the words of Christ. Paul says in Eph. 6:20, I am an ambassador. An ambassador of Whom? In the office of a bond slave, he is an ambassador of the Lord Jesus Christ. This word was used in times of an emperor’s legate. So these words of Paul ring with authority.

Hebr.11:24-27, “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him Who is invisible.” Many solid principals of Godly Wisdom are in these verses. Moses chose to be obedient; the Greek word for chose, haireomai, means “to take for oneself, to prefer.” Moses preferred to suffer affliction with the people of God. Was Moses crazy?! No, Moses was not crazy! He saw true reality through the “eyes” of Godly faith. Moses had the choice to lead God’s people, Israel, out of Egypt or not to. What would Moses have gained by remaining in Egypt?

The Promise in Eph 3:6

By Oscar M. Baker

In the gospel committed to the Apostle Paul, the Holy Spirit revealed for the first time many of those remarkable events which occurred before age-times.

As they had left the Creator's hand, all His works were fair and of manifest perfection. But before long, the anointed one in that primeval creation introduced into a scene of beauty the terrible principle of sin, and with it, its logical consequence - death!

Most serious students of the Scriptures believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified in A.D. 29 according to the present day Gentile calendar. I suppose it is debatable as to the length of the “Acts” period following His death & resurrection. After 30 years of study, I have settled on the 35 yrs. (5x7). It is very important for us to know how the N.T. Books cooperate with this period; that is, before, during, or after the Acts period. Get to work!

The Holy Spirit thru the Apostle Paul speaks of Moses, one of the most important men of God in all of Scripture, in Heb. 11:24-27 “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of the Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the People of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. Know your Scriptures; know your calling. Be strong, faithful soldiers living in active duty serving the Lord. The spiritual battle being waged over The Truth and over your minds is by no means a reality that is frivolous & fickle. (Eph.6:10-18; II Tim.2:1-4).

Please review article #25 in this series and read I Pet.1:18-25.

Another “belief” as to what Scriptural predestination is has been entertained by thousands thru-out history; this idea is one that was brought to popularity on the world stage by a man named John Calvin (1509-64 A.D.). The Calvinistic viewpoint states that you are either predestinated by God Almighty to be a saved believer or you are predestinated to be lost. Although this belief does not have every creature created and born as eventually being saved, it does have inherently within it the idea that ultimately there is no choice in the matter. Glory to God if you are predestinated to salvation, plumb out of luck if you are not! Certainly this creed leaves a huge “out” for mankind to be responsible, at the very least, to the Creator, for how can anybody be responsible to the Lord if they are predestinated not to be?!! Scripturally sound? I know that this “position” is not.
